Term 3 Jump Rope
For the first three weeks of term, our PE focus will be Jump Rope skills and games. The lower students will begin with jumping games and the basics of jumping/turning a rope. As we progress to the upper grades they will have an opportunity to try more advanced tricks like the Criss Cross, 180, 360 or Double Under.
Skipping provides and excellent opportunity to exercise by yourself, with a partner or in a small group of friends. The focus is always about effort, personal improvement and cooperation, with the added bonus of learning a few tricks along the way. I’m so impressed with how motivated our students have been to learn some knew jump rope skills.
We are going to celebrate the end of the unit on Thursday 13th of August. All students are invited to wear red and bring along a donation to help support the Heart Foundation. Keep up the great work, be creative and have fun!

Every morning at school we have staff worship with all the teachers and support staff. It's a great time to hear the thoughts and ideas from our staff as they lead us each morning. Last term, we were discussing mountaintop experiences; times where you have been on top of the world in any experience you are currently in. I was reflecting after the worship and it got me thinking about my personal mountain top experiences.
We were lucky enough during the holidays to get out of Adelaide and drive to West SA along the coast and the Gawler Ranges. We packed the car, loaded the tent and all our food then set off not knowing what to expect as we had never been there before. We spent some time in the Gawler Ranges, exploring the area for a few days, then moved onto the coast. We endured some very cold nights (minus 3 degrees!) and had some fantastic times together.
When we arrived on the coast, we weren't ready for what we were about to experience - white sandy beaches, huge sand dunes to 4WD in, whales frolicking in the ocean and the most important part- almost no other people around! At one point, we drove up to the top of a rocky point and the warm winter sun was just setting as we watched 2 whales splash around off the coast. I was reflecting again and thought that this was a mountaintop experience for me right now. I was with my family with no one else around, watching whales swim around with not a care in the world.
Returning from the holidays, I always find it hard to get back into the routines of life. I almost feel that instead of a mountaintop experience, I find myself in the valley where problems get thrown at us constantly. It's in these times that we lean on others around to help get us back on track.
As we continue with our year, I trust that you too can find moments this term where you experience the mountaintop experiences.
Have a great term with your family and welcome back to Term 3!

Not Good Enough
What would you buy if you had $300,000?
A new car? A new house? Or a dream holiday?
A recent study done by beauty e-tailer SkinStore, showed that women in the United States can spend up to $300,000 just on their face during their lifetime.
Wherever we look, advertisers are constantly telling us that we are not good enough the way we are. In fact, this can be traced right back to the Garden of Eden when Satan told Eve that she was not good enough. He told her that if she just ate the fruit from the forbidden tree, she would be like God. This is the lie that we are confronted with daily. You are not good enough at sport! You are not pretty enough! You are not smart enough! You are NOT enough!
If this ended here it would be a sad story indeed, but God shows us right through the Bible that you are good enough, crushing Satan’s accusations time and time again.
He restores us. He meets us where we are at and covers us in His righteousness. He has made us His sons and daughters, sons and daughters of a King. He doesn’t want anything from us, He simply wants to connect with us.
Such a contrast between the accuser, Satan, and the restorer Jesus.
I encourage you to click on the link to listen to the song ‘Come as You Are’ by Crowder.
Have a great week,
Chaplain Phil

Uniform Policy
This is a whole school reminder to remind you of the expectations of our uniform here at Prescott Primary Northern. There are a few items creeping in that are not uniform and this is a friendly reminder to correct the uniform for Term 3. We will be referring to the 2020 PPN Uniform Policy in this link - CLICK HERE! which is available on our website.
Shoes (page 3) - There are a lot of shoes that are incorrect at school at the moment. Shoes should laced, buckled or velcro, polished, black leather, low-heeled regulation school shoes. There are a lot of sneaker type, black shoes that are coming to school. These are incorrect. Please check your child's shoes and make sure they are correct before Term 3 begins.
Boys winter pants (page 2) - Boys pants should be School grey school trousers (Long cotton cargo pants are not permitted). The correct pants are available at the PPN Uniform Shop.
Hair cuts and Earrings (pages 4-5) - We are seeing a lot of hair cuts are going against the uniform policy. Boys must not have lines between the short and long parts and no lines cut into the hair. It is very embarrassing for your children when we speak to them as they know the expectation, yet the hair gets cut anyway. Please avoid any uncomfortable phone calls by ensuring the hair is cut correctly. Please read and see the pictures in the uniform policy.
Winter jackets (page 2) - A lot of students are coming in non-school winter jackets. We have a thick winter jacket available at the uniform shop. It must be the Navy school rain jacket with emblem (optional). Other jackets are not permitted unless a note is provided as to when you will be purchasing a school one.
These are the main areas we are asking for your help in. As always, you can send an SMS to the PPN school number or write a note regarding your child's uniform, requesting a uniform pass for the incorrect uniform. We are understanding and realise this year has been abnormal, however, there comes a time where we need to ensure our uniform policy is respected.
Thank you for help and understanding with these uniform requests.
Author of the Month
The author that we will be highlighting in the library for the next month is Mo Willems. Mo Willems is an American artist and author. He has written and illustrated more than 50 children’s books! He is the creator of some of the most popular characters in books for young children including the Pigeon, Knuffle Bunny, and Elephant and Piggie.
Willems started drawing cartoons when he was a child and never quit. After completing a degree in animation he worked in the research department of the Children’s Television Workshop which led to him working as a writer for the hit show, Sesame Street.
Mo Willems fun and quirky children’s books are extremely popular and are both loved and adored by children all around the world.
Book of the Week
Hello Lighthouse written by Sophie Blackall is another book that has been shortlisted for a Children’s Book Council of Australia award. This term we will continue reading books on the shortlist and our students will be given a chance to vote on their favourite book and which they think will win.
Hello Lighthouse is a beautiful picture book about hope, change and the passing of time. It shows the progressive history of the lighthouse, run by a lighthouse keeper and his family. There are many circular references and themes woven throughout the story of the lighthouse keeper and his very unique job.
Premier’s Reading Challenge Update
Students have until September 4th to complete and hand in their form. Forms are available from the library. Don’t forget - this year due to the coronavirus pandemic the organisers of the PRC have announced that ANY book can be read and recorded.
