Outdoor Chapel
Last week on Thursday we celebrated Global Outdoor Classroom Day as a whole school. As teachers were able to creatively educate their students outside, the Chaplaincy team joined the day presenting an outdoor chapel. Instead of sitting in the church, singing a few songs and listening to someone share God’s word. We invited students to learn through 3 activities. All 3 games were based on the well-known recount of David and Goliath.
First, students participated in Armour Dash. Pr Andy lead out a relay-based game where students would run and then swap their armour with their teammates before running back. Pr Andy shared that David had to try on sets of armour but ended up leaving to fight Goliath with no armour, because all he needed was God on his side, and no man made armour could protect him more than that.
The second game was “Stone Search”. Pr Roland set up a put-put course in which students had to search and locate their golf ball (stone) and put it into the hole, representing David’s stone from his sling sinking into Goliath’s forehead winning the day. Pr Roland shared that David selected 5 stones, it didn’t matter how prepared David was, the Lord only needed the one to get the job done. It doesn’t mater how much we over-prepare. As long as we’re faithful and take action, one stone, five stones, the Lord can use anything we offer Him.
Finally, the last game was called “The Chase”. Where some of our student chaplains where selected to be chased down, just like the Philistines were once Goliath was defeated, by the other classmates. The student chaplains getting tagged by their classmates was a representation of the pursuit to share Jesus with others.
Sometimes it can seem like a long marathon that will never end, but running the good race, persevering to show Jesus’ love and kindness to others is more rewarding than we could imagine. Chapel concluded with a small talk from Mr Ackland about how David was given a mission to serve. He was sent to deliver his brother’s lunch. And in that service, he found his greater calling. To slay Goliath. And we would be wise to do the same. To pick up the basket of bread first, instead of leaving with the bag of stones to slay the giant, lets begin by serving others first.

2024 ACHPER SA Excellence in Health and Physical Education Awards
We are very excited to announce that Nicole Pfeiffer, our PE teacher, recently won an ACHPER SA Excellence in Health and Physical Education Teaching Award - The Norma Jenner Memorial Award – Primary School HPE Excellence teacher.
Each year this award recognises and rewards a South Australian teacher who:
• models outstanding pedagogical practices
• builds the capacity of their colleagues as HPE professionals
• develops healthy and physically active learners.
Nicole has been recognised for her work developing units of work that encourage students to choose an active lifestyle and research the benefits of physical exercise on their physical and mental health. Some students were so inspired that they took the learning home and encouraged their families to be more active as well.
During her teaching this year, she has trialed new ways of assessing skills and encouraged students to show their talents in a way that they feel confident recognising their individual strengths.
Nicole organised our recent PE Week Tennis lessons and her association with the Valley View Tennis Club has helped build a connection between the club and Prescott Primary Northern with an increase in the number of students who have joined the Tennis Club as a result of the PE Week lessons.
Our staff participated in a step challenge and an active staff meeting of mini golf during our PE Week, also organised by Nicole.
We are so proud of Nicole and her achievement. We have plans to recognise her achievement as a school in the near future.
Sunny Day Ice Play
Summer vibes are already here, with longer warmer days. It is the perfect time to play with frozen flowers and water. Some of the students that are regulars to the nature play space activities, requested to play with frozen flowers and water during the warmer weather because it was their favourite nature play activity. So that is what we did this week, down in the Nature Play space. After a nature walk during the week, we collected some beautiful flowers. I then froze them in two stages to help make the flowers sink to the bottom, making the frozen bowls come to life with floating frozen flowers. The children quickly started scraping, hitting and mixing the ice to try and free the frozen pieces of nature, making a beautiful concoction of nature soup. Will you try frozen nature play this week? Try collecting some flowers on a nature walk, and freeze them for some fun water play as the weather gets hot over the weekend.

Memories are made here
I listened in on a conversation with some of our Year 6's who are about to finish their schooling here. They were wondering how they would still be able to come back here and maintain some connections with the school after they graduate. Primary school is a great place to learn about themselves, their strengths and their responses to situations that may have challenged them. All of us have special memories of places, things and people who have been part of our journey in life. Thus, the students’ desires to maintain some connections with a place, people and experiences that have helped to shape them is not unique to them as young people.
The word “remember” is attached to a lot of Biblical principles, so memory is an important part of our spiritual connections. We all have memories of positive things that we are happy to maintain connections with. The question is, how are you going to get back to these and maintain connections with your favourite “remembers?”
