Pupil Free Day
WOW 2020 Highlights
Week Six of our term is upon us and there are some things that are happening around school that are great developments for our school family. This Friday is a Pupil-Free Day when our teachers will be spending some time in Professional Development, particularly around curriculum. We will also be moving the containers off the Front Oval and after some lawn repair time we will be able to give our Junior students their play area back. Next Tuesday, (remember it’s a Public Holiday on Monday) we are planning to move our Year 4 students into the new building. We are very excited about this move and the learning spaces our North Wing will provide for our students.
Development and change is not always a simple or easy process as we have, and are continuing to discover with our development projects. Our new drop off and pick up zone has generally been working well, but there are a few challenges we face with traffic flow and over the coming weeks, I will be sending you information and requests to try to help minimise the challenges of getting 420 students on to, and home from, our school campus. Please be thoughtful of one another as we work together to help things work more smoothly.
My first request was in an SMS we sent home yesterday asking that, during peak drop off and pick up times (8.25am to 9am and 2.00pm to 3.45pm), we do not turn right from Nelson Road into the church car park as it blocks traffic travelling North on Nelson Road. We will be working with the Salisbury Council to put in place further measures (e.g. parking restrictions along Nelson Road beside the Para Vista Adventist Church to allow people to line up to pull in to the carpark without blocking southbound traffic on Nelson Road) that will help increase flow and relieve stress for drivers and school families. The other request I have is that cars who have pulled in and are turning right into the drive through road, not block the exit for cars leaving the church car park. We will send information and illustrations your way in various forms over the coming weeks to help traffic flow more easily. One thing I have noticed on duty in the afternoons, is that by about 3.35pm, there are very few cars coming through, so that might be a time to aim for. Thank you for your patience.
Have a great extra long weekend with your kids,
Mark B
WOW 2020
WOW, what a week! (pardon the pun).
WHY JESUS? JESUS WHY? Was our theme for our ‘Week Of Worship’ program last week. We were blessed to have Pr Rangi from Sydney come and speak to the students. He was an amazing speaker and the students greatly enjoyed not just his talks, but the whole program.
Highlights of the week included:
- Great Talks – Pr Rangi shared personal stories intertwined with stories from the Bible.
- Amazing Music – Our band lead out in some great songs over the week. Our theme song was ‘Nobody Loves Me Like You Do Jesus’ by Chris Tomlin. Click on the following link to watch and listen to the song. https://youtu.be/SG_IXFEO8yE. Thank you to the team for their uplifting music over the week.
- Themed Lanyards – On Day One, each student received a special themed lanyard that they wore for the week.
- Collector Cards – Each day students received a specially designed and printed card with the day’s Bible verse on it. Students collected one card each day and the 6th card on Friday night. If students were lucky enough to find a coloured dot on the back of their card, they received a reward at lunchtime that day.
- Professor Dynamite – Students looked forward to ‘Professor Dynamite’ who visited each day. He performed visually exciting science experiments to reinforce the main concept or message from the day’s program. His hair was wild, he wore a very unique purple outfit and wowed students in an engaging and interactive way.
- Connect 4 Dinner – 170+ people joined us for our Connect 4 Dinner at the conclusion of the week. Families and students enjoyed the final WOW program and then joined together in the hall for some great food. Families were able to connect with one another over dinner. A huge thank you to those who helped us with the food, hall setup and packing up afterwards. Your assistance was greatly appreciated. Our next ‘Connect 4’ event is planned for later this term, so please look out for the upcoming posters and emails.
- Specially Themed Chruch - A BIG thank you to the SSOs who helped Pr Roland and I set up the church to make it special for the students. The new scenes each day were awesome and appreciated by all.

Last Thursday 27th February, we had four of our students compete amongst 15 North Eastern schools at the District SAPSASA Swimming Carnival. Each competing for the first time, Seanna Liemar 5A, Gaurav Upadhyay 5A, Rudra Mehta 5B and Dillon Hong 4B, each swam 50m of their preferred strokes. Their confidence and positive attitude stood out as they represented our school with pride.
Our results were very pleasing, with Dillon finishing in 3rd place in breaststroke and 4th in Freestyle, placing him in the Freestyle relay at the State SAPSASA carnival later this month. Joining him will be Seanna, as she swam an extremely fast breastroke heat to finish 1st and place her in the State team as well.
Well done to each of you!
