Australian Mathematics Competition
Congratulations to our Australian Mathematics Competition’s special high achievers, Jonathan (Year 3) and Jeslet (Year 4,) who were invited to a special awards ceremony last Wednesday night. Awards are given to children that finish in the top five scores of the State for their age group. Jonathan came 2nd in the State for Year 3 and Jeslet came 4th in the State for Year 4! What wonderful achievements for these students and their families. Well done to you both and thank you Mr Fabello for attending the presentation. Other ICAS and AMC certificates will be given out in the chapel program of Week 8.

Have you ever trained for a race? Or perhaps you have participated or competed in a race, with or without the preparation? There are so many aspects to a race, each with a different level of enjoyment. The excitement that builds up pre-race, the pure enjoyment, commitment and adrenalin during and continuing after the race, the determination and endurance to finish the race, then finally the celebration and feeling of success for completing the race.
The school year often feels like a race. It begins with great anticipation about what may unfold as the days and weeks go by. The enjoyment in the everyday activities and events that happen throughout the year, and the rejoicing in the small successes or milestones throughout the terms, cheer us on to finish the race and finish it well.
Great moments, such as: our little ones singing their hearts out for their special people, parents and grandparents in the Christmas concert this week; celebrating our staff with a catered staff lunch to remind them of the wonderful job they are doing; sending our senior students - our graduating classes of Year 6 and 7 off to their graduation camp, are all great moments that spur us on in this busy season, in this last leg of the race.
Usain Bolt, a champion athlete, once said "There are better starters than me but I'm a strong finisher." Isn't that what we want for our students, our staff and our families? To summon the immense amount of endurance that is needed to finish this year well and be able to reflect upon 2019 and celebrate the journey together.
Paul writes an encouragement in the book of 2 Timothy, to fight the good fight, finish the race and keep the faith. So Prescott family, as we look towards the finishing line of our school year, let's encourage one another along to finish well and celebrate the moments of success, learning and growth together.
Happy racing towards the finish line!
Blessings,
Tamara
Outdoor Chapel Day – God Provides
The widow had only a small amount of flour and a little oil, when Elijah the prophet approached and asked her to make him some food. She was going to make one last flat bread that she and her son would eat, before starving to death due to the drought. Elijah said that if she was to do what he asked, God would provide for them all. What faith, to give your last food and trust that God would provide. The widow put her full faith and trust in God and He provided. Her jar of flour never ran out and her bottle of oil never became empty. What an amazing story!
Thursday last week saw this story come to life at Prescott Primary Northern when we held our outdoor chapel day.
Students were organised into colour groups and after listening to the story of Elijah, they rotated around 3 interactive activities across the oval. First, the students had to send bread to Elijah using large slingshots. It's probably fortunate that God used Ravens and not slingshots, as the bread flew far and wide but rarely hit the target!
Next the ‘Brook Cherith dried up’ and the students had to work as a team to carry water in cups and large plastic tarps up to the other end of the field to fill their teams’ bucket. Water sloshed and splashed out, but the students didn’t give up. They were determined to ensure their team collected the most water!
The final activity was making some salt dough that they could take home as a reminder of the loaves that the widow made for Elijah. There was a variety of dough textures as not all students followed the recipe to the exact quantities! Students got to enjoy eating some pre-cooked flat-bread when they finished.
It was a great day where the students experienced fresh air, teamwork, fellowship and laughter while interacting in fun-filled activities that reminded them about the story of Elijah.
The Lord provides, not just for the people in Bible times, but for us every day.
If you would like to read the about the story of Elijah, you can find it in the Bible in 1 Kings, Chapter 17.
