Term Two Interschool Chess Tournament Success
On Monday the 24th of June, a group of 12 talented chess players from our chess club travelled to Tyndale Christian School to compete in this term’s Interschool Chess tournament. It was a large competition with over eighty players and seven schools competing. There was some great competition by other schools, including Redeemer Lutheran school, who came in first place. This term we came in second place with some great performances from Dylan and Nathan in particular. Dylan was best in our school winning six out of seven games and finished in third place on the individual standings. Aishwarya also did very well, achieving a silver medal in her first tournament. Well done to the whole team on great sportsmanship and winning attitudes all day.
This week marks a bit of a milestone for us here at Prescott Primary Northern. When I arrived here about 6 years ago, I read a letter that Shane Blake (our previous Principal) had written about us moving towards being a paperless school. In a place like a school which is steeped in the traditions of the pen and paper, this is an optimistic goal. However, this week will be our first step to families receiving School Reports online. You will receive instructions about how to access your child’s report through our SEQTA platform, which is our student management system. You will be able to log on and view and even download a copy of the Report. In future, you will be able to access past Reports from here as well.
Our children’s learning journeys are not just about achievement levels on a page. One of the most important ways of helping our children grow and develop is family and teacher communication. We recognise the importance of this and have made some changes to our Parent Teacher discussion nights. We have extended each session from 15 minutes to 20 minutes and we have also increased the times teachers are available to include 2 evenings and one afternoon. I would like to thank the staff for being willing to give extra of their time for the benefit of our children and their families.
The other part of the paper war we would like to tackle is in our forms to do with excursions and consent for various activities. In the coming weeks, you will also receive information about a platform called Consent2Go.
This program will help us minimise paperwork and keep on top of excursion forms, changing contact details and medical details for our students. I would really appreciate you taking the time and making the effort to follow the instructions that come to you and get on board to help us provide the most streamlined and comprehensive service we can for families.
I look forward to catching up with many of you at our Parent Teacher nights next week.
Finally, Miss Bernoth has headed off for several weeks leave over in Europe. We wish her safe travels and all of God’s blessing. If you have any questions or concerns for matters she has been working with, please direct them to Mr Davis or myself.
Have a great week with your kids,
Mark B
Thank You Drop
The value of giving to others is important. It doesn’t matter whether you give lots or a little, give gifts or intangible things, what matters most is that we acknowledge and give to others. Research suggest that we will gain meaningful happiness if we appreciate the importance of those around us, like family, friends and community.
Today our Student chaplains participated in their first of many ‘Thank You Drops’ out in our community. We visited Mr Tony Zappia and his team to thank them for what they do in our electorate. We were able to present Mr Zappia with a small gift to share with his staff as they work hard to make our electorate better.
Mr Zappia took time out of his busy schedule to meet with our students and encourage them as they continue to help and support their classmates at school. The student chaplains enjoyed asking questions about his job and what he does as a member of the opposition.
We have an amazing bunch of student chaplains who were a credit to Prescott Primary Northern. They asked intelligent questions and conducted themselves in positive manner.

Radioactive Cheeseballs Cruise into Top-4 Finals
Before coming into last week’s game, Prescott’s Radioactive Cheeseballs had already cemented themselves a Top-4 finals finish. The outcome of their game against SFX Bulls was superfluous.
A clearly dominant Cheeseball team ran out to a 34 – 6 half time lead, with every player scoring. As well as being relegated to the back court, a number of unorthodox measures were implemented at the main break to help SFX get into the game. All Cheeseball boys were glued to certain lines on the court, with extremely limited defensive scope, and banned from dribbling the ball, allowing Akoul and Alanna to shine inside and on transition. A late adjustment to “T-Rex” defence got a few laughs, and the Cheeseballs invented some creative “running loose ball” attacks.
Gawar top scored on 16, followed closely by Alanna (who took a serious knock late in the game). Nate, Seth, Alex and Farid all played with panache, and Akoul, sporting a tremendous new hair style and owning the lane, ought to have a street named after her.
Thanks to Scarlett for scoring (with help from Alex), and Nate’s Mum, Kim, for taking trainings in my absence. Elimination finals start tomorrow.
Wildcats Progress from All Prescott Clincher
Last week was the last time the Wildcats would meet the Titans, with the outcome of their game determining a Top or Bottom-4 finals berth. The Wildcats came out strong, earning a 6 point lead early, before Micah, Mia and Jola (for the Titans) asserted themselves defensively.
Ayden, also sporting a cool new haircut, ran the corridor, supporting Nicholas and Ethan (with some inspiring dribble), feeding a leading Micah, all helped the Titans claw back and momentarily take the lead late in the first half. Missing Maddison, Marilla a surprise late Titan entry, also had an impact, with only 2 or 3 straight shots separating the teams for most of the second half.
For the Wildcats, Gem saw plenty of on-ball action, and Sade often found herself in perfect shooting position. Tanner made some nifty steals, and Scout ran down some Titan transitions.
As well as setting up his team with a number of slick no-lookers, Zukiah top scored for the game on 12, followed by a long range passing and shooting Jonah on 8. A smiling Kaitlyn was the difference, pulling down rebounds galore at both ends, earning a number of repeat shot opportunities for the eventual winners, Wildcats – who now progress to the Top-4 Finals group.
Thanks to Tanner’s Mum, Liz, for taking Wildcats trainings in my absence.

Soccer Coaching
Do you love soccer or coaching? If so, I need your help!
Students at Prescott Primary Northern now have the opportunity to participate in the South Australian Christian Schools Association (SACSA) sporting competition. This is a trial year where we are looking to send students to represent PPN in the soccer competition held at Barratt Reserve, West Beach at the end of Term 3.
There is the possibility of entering a boy's and girl's team in Years 4/5 and 6/7. For this to happen we would need volunteers to help train the teams on a weekly basis leading up to the event.
Please contact myself in person or email me at joshuacampbell@ppn.sa.edu.au if you would be able to volunteer some time to coach a team.
