Creative Writing Enrichment
A group of students, participating in the Creative Writing Enrichment group have been working hard at writing their own picture books for the Junior Primary students, ready to launch in time for Book Week. Last Friday, these Year 4 students spent the morning reading their wonderful stories to the Year 1 students. A copy of their books are now available in the Discovery Centre for everyone to enjoy. I am sure you will enjoy these great stories, students. Well done, Creative Writers!

One of the things I struggle with in life is patience. I think I am gradually moving to a place where I wait impatiently. That is still a far cry from patience. I think many of you will have similar challenges to me in this area. The other day while I was driving to school, a bus stopped at a designated bus stop and blocked the lane. The lane beside was full of cleverer people than me who had anticipated the bus stop scenario and travelled in the right hand lane. I sat there growing more and more impatient thinking about where I should be and bemoaning the bunch of things that had happened to have me feeling so tense. Then I switched to watching the person who was trying to get off the bus as quickly as possible. They looked like they were in their 80s, struggling for good mobility, but still doing their best to get off as fast as possible so as not to hold people up. I took a deep breath and though to myself, “Look at the efforts this person is making. Why are you so impatient?” I stumbled across the truth that empathy helps with patience.
We are currently in a time when we need patience more than ever. One of the big challenges for us at school at the moment with the current COVID restrictions, is getting all of our children off campus at the end of the day. I would ask for your empathy for other parents, for staff and for the children as it is no easy thing getting around 450 students away in close to a 25 minute period. Empathy can lead to patience and understanding and care for one another – something we can all appreciate right now.
The bonus in all of this is that these also make for great parenting moments for us. Explaining how we are feeling and how we are working through the challenges life brings to our children, provides a model for our children to emulate in the times they face difficulties and great points of reference for the future.
The Bible gives us some great advice in Ephesians 4:2 “ Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” That is not easy to do, but the benefits just keep rippling out.
Have a great week with your kids,
Mark B
Passion Project
If you’re not like me, you probably know someone who is – when a new interest or hobby comes along I tend to dive into it headfirst.
Countless hours reading, researching, learning, and practicing, conversations that seem to always drift towards the latest passion.
Does this sound familiar to you?
Most recently, I surrounded myself with new information and ideas about electronic music making. I’ve always played an instrument or two but had never really thought about how some of the world’s most popular songs are put together in the studio – let alone try it myself.
I’ve been playing with drum machines, beat-making and MIDI-keyboards while tinkering on our piano teaching myself about chords and other composing basics.
This new-found interest seems to have rubbed off on my own children.
They are now spending their own time experimenting with beat making and music production. (One of my sons’ most often requested things to do is play with a drum machine app on my phone).
What’s my point? When we really love something, it changes us and often changes the people around us.
In Luke 18, the Bible records people’s encounters with Jesus: A stuck-in-their ways church leader of the time, a tax-collector, a rich young man, and a blind beggar.
As these stories flow through the chapter we see a pattern – while every person encounters Jesus, they don’t all respond in the same way. Some leave his side unchanged, others full of passion and love that changes their own lives, and the lives of others around them.
Luke 18:43 says this about the blind beggar, “Immediately he received his sight and following Jesus, praising God. When all the people say it, they also praised God.’
Just a moment before this man had been blind, poor, and considered unworthy of people’s care or concern. Now, he could not only see – but was leading the very people who ignored him in praise to God.
The blind beggar’s experience with Jesus changed him. And his new and overflowing love for Jesus, changed the people around him.
That is the power God can have in your life too.
It is my prayer that we each continue to experience Jesus like the blind man - whether you’re only just coming to know Jesus or have loved him for a long time. We should seek to be changed by Him, to be fully surrounded by His love and in doing so, be a witness and encouragement to others to join in our passionate journey with Jesus.

Pick Up Zone
Hi PPN Families. From today, we are opening a front gate to the east of the drive-through zone for walk-in pick up. Our preferences for pick up are 1. Drive Through 2. Back Gate Pick Up 3. Walk in Pick Up to gate east of Drive Though Zone. Please do not park directly opposite the bus zone as this blocks drive-through traffic as cars back out of those parks, and make sure you turn left on to Wright Road. Please do not turn right off Nelson Road to enter the back car park or to join the drive-through.
Many thanks. PPN Leadership
