Year 3’s Veggie Taste Test
As part of their Living and Non-living Science Unit in term 1, the Year 3’s planted cucumber and lettuce seeds in the schools’ fruit and vegetable garden. Over the course of the term, the classes took turns to water and watch the plants as they grew. This week, the students had lots of fun picking the veggies to taste and eat. The consensus was that the cucumbers were very sweet and juicy. Sadly, the lettuce was not received as well, with the best student quote going to Joseph in 3A “The cucumber tasted like heaven, but the lettuce was very bitter.”

Harvest of Value
The time of harvest is an important event. It is the gathering of what has been planted. Our students at Prescott Primary Northern have enjoyed gathering some of the food crops that they planted in our nature play vegetable garden this week. From picking parsley to lettuce, spinach and chard. Eager hands were ready to pick food nourished by soil, water and sunshine. From small beginnings, they grew into their full potential.
In Galatians 6:7 the Bible says … “for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.” This is true of our lives also. Through life experiences in nature, social interaction, and engagement in different learning experiences, we can explore our world and gain the skills, understanding, and knowledge to achieve mastery in areas of value. Through mastery, we can then use our abilities to serve others to help make this world a better place by doing what is valuable. By serving in areas of value we feel fulfilled, worthy and valued.
At Prescott Primary Northern, we are planting seeds in this generation of young people of self-worth, spiritual wisdom, faith, natural laws through play, physical education, academic knowledge and skills that will help our students to work in areas that are valuable to our wider community.
As you fill your day working and supporting your young children, find encouragement knowing that your contribution is planting seeds for the future in their lives, giving them a sense of purpose and direction so they too can contribute and feel valued. At the proper time they will harvest the benefits of these seeds that have been thoughtfully planted.

Sports Day
The scenario got me thinking about a couple of things. Firstly, our children and how we view them. There is much research around how children respond to how they are perceived and what is expected of them. If we view our kids as the incredible human beings they are, with incredible potential, there is a far greater chance of them seeing themselves in the same way. The opposite is also true. View children as self-centred beings who impinge upon our lives, then that message will be received and acted upon. Where the light hits them when we look on them and interacts with them is vital to what message we give to them.
The second thing it got me thinking about was when the light of God shines upon His children, and they light up. When the God of the universe shines His light on us, when His grace reflects upon our lives, it changes the everyday into endless possibilities. There is a beautiful passage in the Bible called Aaron’s Blessing, and it says,
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
Have a great week with your kids,
Mark B
There is a story in the Bible about a lady who had been sick for 12 years. She had spent all of her money on different doctors and physicians but they were unable to help her, in fact, they had made things even worse.
When the lady heard that Jesus was coming to town, she was determined to meet him saying to herself, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed” (Mark 5:28). Pushing through the crowd the woman touched Jesus’ robe and she was healed.
Sometimes in life, we too encounter problems that we have tried to fix, but to no avail. Like this woman we may have sought the advice of different experts and professionals only to find that things get worse. If this is you, then maybe, just like this woman, you have a problem that only Jesus can solve.
Jesus says in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
God bless,

2021 School Improvement Survey
All school families received an invitation to participate in Adventist Schools Australia’s Parent Survey in Week 1. Every parent was given a printed letter with a unique access code so that opinions will be 100% anonymous. Parents' views assist us to provide a more accurate, reliable, and equitable picture than is obtained using only staff and student measures. We would like to encourage you to participate in this survey, as the more data gathered, the more this will assist us in providing the best possible educational experiences for our students.
We have extended the time that this survey will be available to complete. This is the last week that you will have an opportunity to contribute in this survey looking towards school improvement. Don't miss out! The survey will be ‘live’ through to close of business on Friday 14th of May.
