Year 6 Service Project
As part of our Year 6 values and service projects, the students have buddied with Year 12 students at Prescott College. They have been making encouraging cards, which include Bible texts and personal notes for the College students, as they continue to focus on their very important studies for their final year of school. The cards were laminated and magnets placed on the back, so they can put them in a spot, which will remind them of God’s promises. We are looking forward to continuing to support the students throughout this term and next.

Congratulations
Congratulations to one of our bus drivers, Stephen and his wife Karen, on the safe arrival of their first child, a little boy named Gabriel, born on Thursday 23rd July.
"Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every day." (Henri Nouwen) This concept can be challenging, particularly if we are facing certain challenges or situations in our life. How do we cultivate joy? How do we encourage others to cultivate a joyful life? When I think about the word "cultivate", I tend to think of gardening, and I am not a green thumb, so this is quite daunting! On a side note: I am, however, excited to witness our students demonstrate their green thumbs by planting some trees on Friday, as we participate in National School Tree Planting Day. Look out for photos and memories of this upcoming event.
Instead of just sharing some of my experiences or thoughts, I asked some of our teachers to send me some students that they believe cultivate joy in their classrooms and around the school community. What a delightful start to the day I had spending some time with these students and sharing our ideas about cultivating joy. Pure joy! Alexander (a very wise Yr 3 student) very quickly explained that the word cultivate means to grow or prepare for something. So how do we grow or prepare joy? I was blown away by some of the responses that were shared this morning, these joyful students demonstrated wisdom beyond their years. Ideas such as serving others to grow joy, or focusing on the positives instead of being stuck in the negatives, and always looking for the good in one another. We have collated some of these wonderful, and contagious ideas in the video below.
Children learn from us. They watch us. They mimic our behaviour and reactions. If we want to cultivate joy in those around us, let's be the first to demonstrate this joy. May our joy be contagious! Give back to those around us, to our families, our school and our communities. Be grateful and share this attitude of gratitude. Notice the good in others and the nature around us and verbalise this to your children. Our children, our students here at Prescott Primary Northern, are a great source of joy. Let's cultivate joy, no matter what stressful or challenging times you may currently be facing. Because put simply: joy is a choice! Choose joy. Embrace joy. Cultivate joy.
Have a joyful week with your children.
Blessings,
Tamara
Limitless
Satan says Jesus is a God of limitations.
The wedding feast in Canaan was in full swing when the unimaginable happened… they ran out of wine. Have you ever wondered why?
A good friend challenged my thinking when he pointed out that the wedding would have been a small family affair. Jesus was invited to the wedding and three days prior, he had appointed 12 disciples. Consequently, his disciples attended the wedding feast also. This family gathering had not planned for an extra 12 hungry and thirsty men!
Jesus’ mother approaches Jesus and asks Him to help. Jesus performs a miracle and turns jars of water into wine.
Jesus made 720 liters of wine! An absolute abundance of wine for the small wedding feast.
Jesus demonstrated that He is not a God of limits. This is true for us today. He provides more than we need and has a limitless amount of love for each of us.
Have a great week,
Chaplain Phil
Fun Run Volunteers Required
We have a few opportunities coming up this term where we would like to invite our parents and grandparents - all of our wonderful volunteers who have missed volunteering at our school this past term. Our CEC (Community Event Committee) run lots of activities and fundraising events at our school. We are very excited to be planning to go ahead with a favourite annual school event - our Fun Run. This is scheduled to go ahead on Friday, 18th of September. We would like to invite our wonderful volunteers that would be interested in assisting on the day to register their interest with our Front Office. We will make sure that all volunteer information (Working with Children Checks etc) are up to date. This event can't go ahead without the help of our parents and grandparents, so if you are able to assist, please call the Front Office or come and visit in person by the end of Week 2, Friday July 31st, so we can pass your details onto our CEC leader.
Preservice Teacher at PPN
We would like to welcome another Preservice Teacher to our school community. Ms Caitlin Smith, from Avondale College, is working alongside Mrs McGrath in Year 1B. We would like to wish Caitlin a memorable learning experience with us as she completes her school placement at PPN over the next few weeks.

Parking Around The School
1. Parking out the front of the school-
We are noticing a lot of parents parking in the front area of the school, walking to the single gate and dropping off, only to return to the car minutes later and reversing out into traffic. We understand the convenience but parking here and reversing out is stopping the flow of traffic from the drive through zone. We are asking that if you are walking your child onto our school grounds or collecting them in the afternoons, we would prefer you use the back car park.
2. Keeping the car park entrance clear
As mentioned in a hand out last week, it is very important that you please do not park in the entrance to the back car park. If the drive through line is full, please wait with your left indicator flashing while on Nelson Road. When the line starts to move, then feel free to move into the drive through zone but please don't block the car park entrance.
3. Turning left only out of car parks and drive through
In peak times, when families wait and try to turn right onto Wright Road from the drive through, it again, slows the whole drive through down- often to a complete stop. We are asking kindly that you turn left only out the drive through onto Wright Road.
4. Side gate reopened!
We have cleared the temporary storage near the Front Office and are happy to open this walkway again to allow an alternative entrance, rather than going through the Front Office.
Please remember the current restrictions still in place (No adults entering classrooms unless you sign on in the Front Office).
We hope to continue to develop the parking around the school so it runs as smoothly as possible.

Book of the week!
I Need a parrot - Author/Illustrator: Chris McKimmie
Shortlisted for the 2020 Picture Book of the Year!
Chris McKimmie’s style is unmistakably his own. This book rewards several readings and affirms the complementarity of the author being the illustrator. McKimmie is a very assured illustrator who is both skilled and witty in execution. McKimmie’s bizarre and humorous print text is well suited to the insightful illustrations showing the problems of our desire to keep and cage pets. With very few words and deceptively simple drawings, this book gives readers lots to ponder and discuss. Vivid colours, first-person narrative and various media combine to communicate the understated final message. Child-like and sophisticated at the same time, the story opens with an opening cage to set the tone. The blank double-page spread with the ‘aha’ moment, which simply says 'Oh.', is genius. To then turn to another double-page spread of just the sky with the bird flying is amazing. It further creates a beautiful resolution to the story. This book exploits economy in its exemplification of 'less is more'—so much more!
