Thank You for a Successful PPN Cereal Day!
A big thank you to everyone who helped make our PPN Cereal Day a huge success! We're so grateful for the generosity and support of our school community. It was wonderful to see so many of you coming together to contribute and make a real difference.
We are incredibly thankful for all the donations, and we know that ADRA is so grateful as well for the impact this will have. Your kindness will go a long way in helping those in need.
As a school, we feel truly blessed to be part of such a caring community. Thank you once again for your generosity and spirit of giving!
Keep an eye out for a fun cereal-dominos video coming soon!

SAPSASSA Swimming
Eden represented Prescott on Friday at the SAPSASA Swimming Carnival. She came 1st in the breaststroke and 3rd in the 50 freestyle. She had a lot of fun!
Nature Play Treasure Hunt
This week, the students at PPN also got to go on a treasure hunt. Even though we have done a treasure hunt or two before, our treasure hunt looked a little different this week. We used all our senses on the scavenger hunt, collecting leaves and other items, but also looking for birds, listening to their calls, finding something smooth to touch and a flower to smell. The students were excited treasure hunters, scouring the playground for their items. Some students even used their items to create a picture at the end of the play session.
Have you tried going on a nature scavenger hunt with your family?

Of Standards and Such the Like
This week and next week our Year 3s and 5s are doing the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) which measures their learning against all Australian students in their respective age group. Society expects us to measure up to specified standards of behaviour, achievement and capabilities to mention a few things. What happens when we do not meet social standards or expectations? A range of consequences can result from our lack of meeting social standards.
There are standards of things in life that we can improve on through prayer, intentional hard work and support of others. Academic progress could be one of those things that humans are able to improve. There are however, “artificial” standards set by society that lend themselves readily to discrimination and segregation—both aspects which society generally denies practicing even though our histories provide evidence of their existence. Being civil and accommodating individual differences of things individuals cannot change about themselves is one of the key things to a harmonious society.
Next week, we will be focusing on the things we have in common as people while celebrating the diversity of cultures and views that we represent at Prescott Primary Northern. So, while we work through standardized tests this week and wait for moderated results that pit our school against other schools, may our real goal be the unity of Christ before whom, thankfully, we are all equal. What similarities do you have with others regardless of visual or superficial differences?
Good afternoon PPN Family,
A few weeks ago, we had our annual Waterworld Connect 4, and I think It's definitely one of the best ways to kick off the school year! As I stood frying sausages, I couldn't help but look out at the incredible diversity within our community. We represent many countries and cultures, yet we come together as one big, vibrant family.
Recently, at Lyfe group, (it’s a fortnightly get together with a bunch of youth where we do life together, and learn more about Jesus and our relationship with him) we looked at something we all have had experience in: arguments.
Many of us shared stories of conflicts at work or within our families and what struck us was that the root cause often boiled down to misunderstanding or miscommunication. We realized how easily our differences in perspective can lead to friction if we don't take the time to truly understand one another.
We then whipped out our phones, as all youth usually do, and for the next 20 or so minutes completed the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Afterwards, when we got our results, we went through our little paragraph about our personality and spent time learning about our strengths and weaknesses. This insightful personality test highlighted just how unique each of us are and prompted us to reflect on how these differences, rather than being obstacles, can actually be our greatest strengths.
In 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 Paul writes: “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we all serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.” This passage reminds us that our differences are not accidental. We were created to be different and to work together.
My prayer this week is that as we continue to understand and appreciate the uniqueness of our wonderful PPN community.
Blessings,
Pr Andy.

Free Webinar Tonight - Emotional Regulation
Don't miss this FREE webinar for all PPN families.
A Heart-Centred Approach to Supporting Your Child
Meltdowns, outbursts, and challenging behaviours can leave us feeling lost and unsure how to help. It's tough when our kids are struggling with big emotions! What we sometimes forget is that these behaviours usually stem from overwhelming feelings that our children don't yet have the tools to manage.
Emotional Regulation is Dr Justin Coulson’s powerful guide to helping children understand and regulate their emotional world. Once they develop competence with this critical life skill, emotionally intelligent children will feel more confident, perform better at school, have healthier relationships with others, and even be physically healthier.
This presentation will equip parents with a five-step “emotion coaching” process that brings together the very best in emotional intelligence research from Dr John Gottman, the Yale Centre for Emotional Intelligence, and others, to build children’s resilience, increase wellbeing for the whole family, and develop healthier humans.
Tonight's webinar is available free to all PPN families as a service provided to you from the school. To access the webinar and other free resources please use the details below.
