The Gospel of Luke

Book_Of_Luke.jpg

This year, Roland and I will be focusing on gleaned lessons from the Gospel of Luke, found in the New Testament of the Bible.

It is suggested by many scholars that Luke was not a Jew, as were all the other writers of the New Testament.  He was an educated man of learning, a Physician, who wrote the Gospel to a Roman officer by the name of Theophilus, but he also writes with a broader audience in mind.  In fact, the name ‘Theophilus’ means “one who loves God”.  Luke’s Gospel, therefore, is for anyone who loves God.

Luke is the most comprehensive of all the Gospels. It begins with the birth of John the Baptist and continues through Jesus’ life, death, resurrection, and ascension to Heaven.  Luke emphasises that Jesus welcomes all people to follow Him and how His message moved beyond Jerusalem and the Jews to all the nations across the world.

We hope that you enjoy this journey with us and would encourage you to ‘ask the chaplains’ if you have any questions via email along the way.
