Principal's Remarks
Welcome back for Term 4 of our 2020 school year. I am going to state the obvious again and say I can honestly not remember any year quite like this one. Having said that, there are some things that are constant reminders of how blessed we are and how our kids have continued to learn and grow and how much they support and care for one another. As I was on duty on Monday morning, I saw two kids run to one another from metres apart, squealing with delight at seeing one another after the holiday break.
It was a timely reminder for me. I was focusing on all the “things” that must be done this term, the various activities we are trying to squeeze in from earlier in the year, and planning for 2021. The joy of those two little ones prompted me to enjoy those simple moments that shine such a light on everything else. During the holidays, Alison and I were driving through the Adelaide Hills and drove past a gate that had a bunch of flowers in a bucket with a For Sale sign on the front. I stopped and backed up the car and Alison picked out some proteas.
Over the next few days, I watched the flowers open in the vase on the kitchen bench. It is not a huge bouquet, just a couple of simple flowers, but every time I walk past, my thinking and outlook is changed. I was struck again by how the little things and moments can add a depth, beauty and perspective to the other aspects of our lives.
So as we begin the run into a very busy time of a very crazy year, I would encourage you to let those beautiful, simple moments that children provide so many of, colour the lists and the responsibilities of your adult world.
Have a great week with your kids,
Mark B
