Fingers In The Dirt
Thrown to the ground she cowers. Eyes downcast as she waits, condemned by her accusers. The cacophony of noise stops instantly as all eyes turn to Jesus, everyone is watching and waiting.
The circling Pharisees congratulate each other as their callous plan is set in motion. If they can make Jesus slip up it will give them the chance to get rid of Him once and for all.
Jesus scans the crowd, He looks at the sinful woman cowering on the ground and without saying a word, Jesus stoops down. He writes in the dust with his finger. The Son of God lowers Himself to the woman’s level and Jesus communicates to all the onlookers not through voice but through His actions.
The Bible does not tell us what He wrote, but that He wrote.
Jesus then stands up and challenges the Pharisees “He who is sinless can throw the first stone.” And then continues writing in the dust.
The Bible says that the Pharisees slowly depart, leaving the woman alone with Jesus who sets her free from her accusers.
Just as Jesus accepted and forgave the sinful woman, so He offers to do the same for us.
Have a great week,
