Principal's Remarks
I know it has been a long time coming, but over the next few weeks you will see work beginning on our Nature Playground where a house used to be on 346 Wright Road. We have been raising funds through our amazing CEC for the last 3 years or so and now things are coming to fruition. You will see some posters around the school that Miss Bernoth has made, indicating that things are getting underway soon and that there will be opportunities for families to contribute further financially if they would like. This can happen through something as simple as purchasing a family plaque through to sponsoring a whole piece of play equipment or area, if you would like.
We are so excited about the possibilities for learning that this development offers our staff and students, like investigating, problem solving, creativity, conflict resolution, controlled risk taking and getting kids in the great outdoors. We are hoping that this space becomes a place of learning during class times as well by creating more opportunities for taking learning outside the classroom. We are looking at possibilities for use by our older students as well, and also looking at ways we can develop our Middle and Upper students’ play area in the future.
One of the things we are really proud of is that many of the ideas for this project came from things our students came up with as a part of their learning. These were then passed on to Simon from Climbing Tree who took them and developed them even further. We think it is really important for our children to contribute to the development of the learning opportunities in our school. They have excelled again!
Below is a drawing of the proposed Nature Playground. Please have a look and I hope you will get as excited about I as I am.
Have a great week with your kids,
Mark B
