Sports Update
SACSA Soccer Competition
Students in Grade 4-7 competed in the SACSA soccer competition last week. They started with an early morning drop off at school before heading down to Barratt Reserve, West Beach. The 4/5 boys and girls teams played on Monday in some cold and windy conditions and the 6/7 boys played on Tuesday. Each team played around 7 games throughout the day. In the end, the 4/5 boys team had a number of close games to come equal third, the 4/5 girls were undefeated all day until the final, finishing second overall and the 6/7 boys had several hard fought games to come fifth overall. Well done to all of you for your great sportsmanship and teamwork. I would also like to say a big thank you to all the parents who came to support us and assisted in a variety of areas to help the day to run smoothly.

Ashton Hong - National Champion
Known for his athletic gifting in SAPSASA competitions throughout the North Eastern district, our Year 5 student, Ashton Hong, was further selected to represent South Australia in the National Championships held in Darwin last week. This invitation is offered to primary students who have displayed high levels of athleticism in their chosen events; which in Ashton's case, included long jump, 100m and 200m sprints and a place alongside three equally strong sprinters in the medley relay. The call to compete in as many as four events reflects the high level of ability that Ashton possesses, and the great potential his coach saw within him. So how did he go?
On day 1, in typical Darwin heat, Ashton competed in the long jump finals and jumped a new personal best of 4.5m, finishing top 12 overall. He recorded another PB in the 200m sprint at 28.73 secs, placing him as the 15th fastest in Australia. On day 2, Ashton clocked another PB in his 100m heats with 13.64 secs but was 0.2 seconds off from making the finals.
The medley relay on day 3 set up a team of 4 runners completing 200m, 200m again, 100m and finishing with a 300m runner. Ashton was placed as the fastest 100m sprinter for the third leg.
When he received the baton, SA was in 4th position. Ashton ran like lightening and managed to close the gap a little putting SA into 3rd position on the last exchange and his superstar team mate closed a massive gap on the last leg passing NSW at the very end to finish 2nd! This clocked a time of just under 2 secs shy from the national record!
Well done on bringing home your first National medal and having your name in the Championship books! Congratulations on beating your own records and striving to achieve your best in all regards. We are so proud of your efforts and achievements- which you display with great humility. There's a Champion right there.
