Chaplain's Remarks

Chaplain_Remarks_Anderina_1_.jpg

Afternoon PPN Families,

Last week was a blast here at school as it was Science Week! We had a number of fun activities and exciting experiments happening throughout the week. Students made their own paper from recycled paper, they made butterfly feeders, went on a nature scavenger hunt and even extracted DNA from strawberries.

Our chapel service also had a science twist. We looked at the theme of transformation. First at the process of how glass is made, from the sand going into the kiln to becoming molten glass which can then be made into many wonderful and helpful things we use every day. This led us to the powerful story of a man named Paul, whose life was dramatically transformed by Jesus. He went from a man who made it his mission to capture, punish and kill the followers of Jesus to becoming one of Jesus' biggest followers and preacher.

And lastly, we ended with a bleach, water and iodine experiment that visually represented the way God's grace can transform us. When mixed with water the iodine water mixture turns the water slightly reddish brown. When bleach/water is added a chemical reaction occurs between the chlorine molecules in the bleach and the iodine molecules, turning the mixture clear.

Sin (iodine mixture) pulls us away from God and corrupts us (water) into being people that hate, act selfishly and do things that hurt others. But when we ask God (bleach mixture) to come into our lives he overcomes that sin and helps us to be someone that loves and is kind to those around us.
In 2 Corinthians 5:17 it says "This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun." (NLT).
Jesus takes our old life tarnished by sin and transforms it into a new life filled with hope and blessings.

Whishing you all a wonderful week!
Pr Andy.
