Science Week at PPN

Last week, PPN had a wonderful Science Week with the theme “Species Survival: More Than Just Sustainability.” We had a lot of fun during lunch with exciting activities every day!
Fun Activities We Did:
  • Ocean Bin: We learned about ocean animals and how to protect their homes.
  • Hungry Caterpillar: We read the book and did activities about how caterpillars camouflage.
  • Eco-Friendly Slime and Oobleck: We made stretchy slime and gooey oobleck using safe ingredients.
  • Butterfly Feeder: We created feeders to attract butterflies to our gardens.
  • Leaf and Bark Rubbing: We made beautiful art by rubbing leaves and tree bark.
  • DNA Extractions from Strawberries: We saw how to extract DNA from strawberries and learned what DNA is.
  • Volcano Eruption Dough: We had fun making our own volcanoes that erupted!
  • Nature Scavenger Hunt: We explored outside and looked for different plants and animals.
  • Uno Garden: We enjoyed a game and learned about plants through the Uno Garden book.
  • Composting: We learned how to turn food scraps into compost to help our gardens grow.
Thank You!
A big thank you to everyone who donated their 10-cent cans and bottles! Your contributions help support our activities and promote sustainability.
“The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.” – Proverbs 12:10
This verse reminds us of our responsibility to protect all living creatures and care for the planet we share. Let’s continue to take care of our planet and all the wonderful species that live here. Together, we can make a difference!

Nitro Nat Visits PPN for Science Week!

This year, PPN was excited to host Nitro Nat for Science Week! She brought her amazing show, Supreme States of Matter with Liquid Nitrogen, which wowed students and teachers alike.
During the show, Nitro Nat demonstrated the different states of matter—solid, liquid, and gas—using spectacular experiments with liquid nitrogen. Students were amazed to see how quickly things could freeze and change states right before their eyes!
The show was not only fun but also educational. Nitro Nat explained the science behind her experiments, helping everyone understand how matter behaves in different conditions. Students learned about the importance of temperature and how it affects everything around us.
Thank you to Nitro Nat for bringing such an exciting experience to PPN!

Year 5 Visit Beerenberg Strawberry Farm

Our students had a fantastic day at Beerenberg Strawberry Farm! They delved into the rich history of Strawberry Lane Family history, learning about the farm's legacy and commitment to quality produce. Under sunny skies, students had a hands-on experience picking the brightest, ripest strawberries (with some taste-testing along the way!). To top it all off, they enjoyed delicious, creamy ice creams as a sweet ending to a perfect day outdoors.

Nature Play

It was wonderful to see the students visit the nature play area today, excited to see what was set up. We had some half pipes in the sand pit, and it was great to see the teamwork that the students had making a water detector, dams and rivers. There were also baskets of various nature items and some paper drawings to make collages. Some children chose to add items by glueing them to a river scene, others added features to a face outline. It was great seeing all the creative ideas that each student had when using the materials. God has made so many unique nature items for us to enjoy. From the large, broad leaves on the trees, sunsets and patterns, to tiny velvet petals and soft feathers. We spoke about the textures of all the items and how God is very creative, designing so many wonderful things for us to appreciate. This week, enjoy getting outside with your children, noticing all the amazing nature that God has created for us to explore and delight in!
