Interschool Chess Champs

This Monday, a group of students from our Chess Club travelled to Tyndale Christian School to play against other qualifying schools from the North Eastern Districts. This term it was a mixed tournament of three High School and four Primary School teams.

It was a very exciting day with lots of our players having some intense games against students twice their age! Despite the tough competition, Prescott found themselves on the top of the mixed ladder at the end of the day! All players are to be congratulated for their sportsmanship and cheering each other on when they needed encouragement. It was great to see Riya, Gabriel, Kabir and Zayn play in their first Interschool. We especially congratulate Anthony who came second overall with 6 wins and one draw. Neil, Atharv and Japjeet focused so well to come out with gold medals also. Well done, team.

Yr 4 Visit Maritime Museum

Ahoy there! This Monday, our Year 4 students embarked on an exciting journey to the Maritime Museum in Port Adelaide. There, they brought their HASS studies on the First Fleet and Colonisation to life through engaging stories from our tour guides and their exploration of historical artifacts. Students had the unique opportunity to experience what it was like aboard a ship bound for Australia by laying in period-authentic beds and exploring a replica vessel. Additionally, we enjoyed a boat ride on the Port River, eagerly searching for local dolphins. Some even claimed to have spotted Rocket, the adorable new baby dolphin, though amidst the excitement, we couldn't be certain if it was Rocket or simply the gentle river waves playing tricks on us. Overall, it was a day filled with discovery, learning, and unforgettable experiences.

Year 6 Garden Day: Getting Our Hands Dirty!

Last week, our Year 6 students had an absolute blast transforming their garden plots into lively little farms. With the sun shining brightly, everyone was eager to dig into the dirt and plant their seedlings and seeds.

Equipped with trowels, gloves, and plenty of enthusiasm, the kids dove into the garden, finding worms (and other critters) along the way. There was a lot of laughter and excitement as they carefully laid out neat rows of seedlings.

The fun didn’t stop there! They also started planning for vertical gardens, which will soon be home to climbing plants like beans and peas. The idea of building garden towers had everyone buzzing with creativity.

By the end of the day, the garden was filled with promise, and the smiles on the kids' faces were as bright as the sun. It was the perfect way to enjoy the outdoors before the rain came to give our new plants a good soaking.

This gardening adventure was not just about fun in the sun; it was a great way for our students to learn about nature, teamwork, and responsibility. We can't wait to see how our garden grows! Keep an eye out for updates and feel free to drop by to see the progress.

Here's to a bountiful season ahead!

Foundations Visited by Animals Anonymous

On Friday, the Foundations were so excited to have Animals Anonymous visit Prescott. The children were able to meet all sorts of animals like a quokka, lizard, bird, sugar glider, goanna and snakes. We learnt about their needs and habitats and were even able to pat each animal. Some of us were even brave enough to hold a big snake! What a fun learning experience this was.

Mud Glorious Mud!

Last week, to celebrate International Mud Day, PNN hosted a Playdate with Prescott with lots of muddy activities and fun. Our little visitors enjoyed painting pictures with mud, stomping their muddy footprints onto a sheet, washing and scrubbing toy cars in the carwash, hunting for dinosaurs in muddy slime and jumping in our huge mud puddle. The sun was shining, making it perfect weather for some messy play in the mud and a hot drink to keep warm. We finished our morning with singing a rainy song together, using umbrellas and spray bottles to make rain pitter patter on the umbrellas.  It was a wonderful, muddy morning, and we look forward to having our Playdate with Prescott friends back again in Term 3.

The fun didn’t stop once the little ones had gone home though. Throughout the rest of the day our PPN students had a chance to enjoy the muddy puddle as well. There was lots of excitement, squeals of delight and messy, muddy fun!

Mud play is such an important part of developing learning skills and sensory play. It fosters creativity and imagination, provides an opportunity to develop social skills, and is beneficial for mental health and the immune system. Most importantly, it is fun!
