Chaplain's Remarks
Dear Parents and guardians.
Week 6 of Term 2 has been an exciting one. This week our staff have been looking at what it means to be “Growing in Christ”. As Christians, we believe that we are saved by grace and not by works. John 3:16 shares that those who make it into heaven are the ones who believe, not the ones who try the hardest. It is easy for us to become complacent in our walk with God once we have made the decision to follow Him. But accepting Jesus isn’t the end of our spiritual journey, it’s merely the beginning.
Growth can be observed in many different forms. Developmental, maturity, and probably the most visible, physically. Muscular growth happens when a muscle is under load and pushed to the boundary of fatigue. The reason you feel sore in your muscles after working hard is because they have formed little micro-tears and are recovering. During the recovery process, the carbohydrates and proteins that you eat fill these little micro-tears and consequently your muscle grows in size.
The science behind muscle growth is a great foundational understanding for all aspect of growth, including growing in Christ. Life can throw heavy things our way. And sometimes carrying the weight of the heavy things can push us to fatigue, becoming sore from the micro-tears. Prayer is the protein and reading our Bibles is the carbohydrates our body needs to recover effectively to grow. And through the recovery period we become stronger - equipped to carry even the heaviest burdens life can throw.
God Bless,
Toby
