To procrastinate or not to procrastinate, that is the question…
At about 1pm, I opened my laptop, and started my assignment. I read over what the task was and began opening internet tabs while laughing and talking with friends. After a lot of talking had occurred and very little work had been done, it finally happened. Two hours had passed, I looked at the time and said to the others with me, “We only have two hours to complete this assignment and figure out how to hand it in with this new online system.” All of a sudden, the laughing stopped, the jokes stopped, and everyone was focused, staring at their computers and typing as quickly and frantically as they could. No one dared to say a word, if anyone did dare to speak, the others would reply with the exact time, and how many minutes were left to complete the assignment.
With 15 minutes to go, the assignment was completed… Well, it wasn’t amazing, but I had reached the word limit that I needed to. Now, to navigate how to hand it in. Passwords, finding the right place, uploading it (which is when 5 minutes begins to literally feel like an eternity). And at last, it was handed in. With one minute to spare… Phew!
Now, handing an assignment in this late is definitely not something I would consider to be a wise decision. I could have greatly improved my results if I had simply given myself more time. Instead, I chose to give myself only a few hours to complete it.
But something I plan on never procrastinating with, is my friendship with God. And it is exactly that, a friendship. But you see, like assignments, friendships don’t work very well if you ignore them until the very last minute. So, if I can encourage you to do anything. Talk to God. Make time for Him, get to know who He really is, and you will have the best friend in the world.
Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
You see, God is calling your name, He designed you, He loves you, and He wants to spend time with you, but He won’t ever force you. So, go to Him, say hello, and go from there. Just take it one step at a time, one day at a time.
And remember, that He will never stop loving you, and He will never give up on you. There is nothing too big for the God who created the universe, and there is nothing too small, for that same God who knows you so intimately that He knows the number of hairs on your head.
May God bless you as you journey with Him this week and through the holidays.
P.S. One of my favourite things that Jesus said is found in Luke 5:31-32, “Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” I like this verse, as it’s a reminder that God loves me, even though I have made mistakes. Jesus didn’t come for those who claim to be perfect, but He came for those of us who have made mistakes, and He is seeking us, so that we can rebuild that friendship with Him.
